NYC Trip Round-up & Highlights

At Hogan Parker, it is imperative to us that we see, feel, and experience every product we introduce in our store. We were recently able to attend an in-person trade show to do just that. Below are some highlights of the goodies we found, fell in love with, and brought back just for you.  

1. Mongolian Blankets & Throws

These might be the softest throws I've ever laid hands on. Bonus: before moving to Mongolia for 20 years and then settling in Colorado, the makers used to live in DC.

The Pique Knit Throw
The delicate and extravagantly soft pique cashmere throw combines beige with sage borders in a celebration of throwback colors.

Taiga Knit Throw
Taiga, meaning “the land of little sticks”, is a boreal, northern forest characterized by long, cold winters. The Taiga throw is designed with rare yak down to keep you cozy and warm at sub-zero temperatures.

A NOTE FROM THE MAKERS
Created by a family-owned and run business. Based in Basalt, Colorado with a presence in Mongolia where fibers are sourced and where the makers have lived and worked for more than a decade.

This unique collection of yak down, baby camel and cashmere blankets and throws are knit and woven exclusively in Mongolia from hand-combed natural fibers, ensuring that the value-added production remains in-country for the herder families, the knitters and the weavers with whom we partner.

Rare yak down is a passion because it is exquisitely soft, warm and, unbleached and undyed. Yak have a special sustainability story. Yak are relatively light on the land because they graze without uprooting the native steppe grasses like other animals. The yak down used to weave and knit these throws and blankets is sourced largely from the Hangai mountains. The Hangai are located in Mongolia’s central heartland.

Business partners include herder families, local associations and cooperatives, as well as knitters and weavers who share our values that embrace fair trade, sustainable production, local empowerment, and traceability.

Together with Mongolian and U.S. entrepreneurs, the makers are building an international brand that showcases Mongolia’s extraordinary natural fibers and in this fashion are also helping preserve tradition and culture.

2. Botanical Handmade Soap

I didn't embark on this trip looking for more soaps, but I walked by a table that smelled so delicious, I simply couldn't help but bring some back.

ABOUT THE MAKERS
Redoux is a line of sophisticated scents and vegan skincare for the modern nostalgic. They care about the past, present, and future. Redoux aims to keep you in touch with what’s important so products are crafted for and around experiences that we all share in common--excitement, stillness, love, growth. It’s modern, but nostalgic. Smart, yet approachable. Feminine and masculine. Everyone is different, but we share a common string through life.

Redoux focuses on process and experience. Everything is handmade, small-batch, and tailored to specific skincare needs. Research is performed on every ingredient that goes into each product--ensuring that each serves a specific purpose and addresses an expressed need. Furthermore, Redoux believes that scent is as important to a product's experience as the results. Redoux takes two to three months to curate scent profiles, blending multiple variations for quality, clarity, and proper expression of sentiment.

The brand is the brainchild of Asia and Alejandro. Two friends with a common love for skincare and new experiences.

Their passion for skincare led them to discover many products that permeated various shared memories, summer bee venom masks, the quintessential morning green tea cleanser, and the delicate but indispensable black orchid extract. Beyond skincare, however, there were also multiple tokens that became highlights of their friendship: the palo santo box from Asuncion, the Omija tea from Jeju, or even the nostalgic coffee scent from their breakfasts in college.

Then one day it clicked. ‘We can bottle memories, through scent.’

Scent is a powerful catalyst. It can be infused to add a new dimension to make an unforgettable experience. It can be composed to create unique moments. And it can perpetually be harnessed to evoke emotions. Redoux is rethinking the power that scent has in our identities, our relationships, and our life experiences.
